Looking for a Spiro alternative?
Spiro is an operator-built US platform with a genuinely fair $5-per-listing price and strong editor workflow. Locium is also usage-based — but adds the pieces Spiro doesn’t document: embedded booking, native Xero, retainers, a map day planner and mobile apps. Honest, source-checked comparison below.
Respect first: Spiro is one of the most operator-grounded platforms in this space. It was built by Todd Kivimaki out of WOW Video Tours, an Ohio media company running since 2004 that shoots thousands of listings a year — and it shows in the editor workflow, the assignment queues and a simple US$5-per-completed-job price with no subscription. Sound familiar? Locium was built the same way, inside Patorama Studios in Australia.
The differences are in the details. Spiro’s own documentation states its order page cannot be embedded in your website (link-out only), that there is no downloadable mobile app, and that it deliberately offers no native Xero or QuickBooks integration — its docs recommend reconciling revenue through bank feeds instead. Twilight is a bookable add-on, but automatic sunset calculation isn’t documented, and the $5 fee is also charged for deleted and duplicate listings.
Locium charges per delivered listing only — nothing for cancelled or deleted jobs — and includes embedded booking, native Xero sync, pre-paid wallet and retainer billing, twilight auto-detection and a map-based day planner with route optimisation. Everything below is based on what Spiro publishes on spiro.media and its 400-article help centre; anything undocumented is marked "—" rather than guessed.
Choose Locium if…
- You want an order form embedded in your own website, not a link-out page
- You are in Australia/NZ — native Xero sync, AUD, GST, metric first-class
- You bill clients on pre-paid wallets or monthly retainers
- You want a map day planner with one-tap route optimisation
- You want twilight/golden-hour windows calculated automatically
- You only want to pay for listings you actually deliver — never for deleted or duplicate jobs
Spiro may fit better if…
- The US$5 flat fee per job beats your volume economics
- Free full white-label (all portals + email on your own domains) matters most
- You want Titus pay-at-closing billing (US customers only)
- Their Dropbox-centric editor pipeline matches how your team already works
Why media companies look for Spiro alternatives
The order page can’t be embedded
Spiro’s own help centre states you "cannot embed the order page to your website" — clients must be sent to a Spiro-hosted link. Locium’s booking form embeds directly in your site, so the journey never leaves your brand.
No native Xero or QuickBooks
Spiro documents that it deliberately offers no accounting integration, recommending bank-feed reconciliation instead. If your accountant lives in Xero, that means manual matching forever. Locium syncs invoices, payments and receipts to Xero natively.
Deleted and duplicate listings still bill
Spiro’s usage-fee policy charges the US$5 fee even for deleted or duplicate listings, and standalone delivery pages are billable too. Locium bills only when you actually deliver a listing to a client.
No mobile app — by their own docs
Spiro documents that it "does not currently have a downloadable mobile app"; portals are mobile web pages you pin to your home screen. Locium ships a dedicated mobile app experience for shoot-day workflows.
Twilight is manual
Twilight exists as a bookable add-on service, but automatic sunset/golden-hour calculation isn’t documented anywhere in Spiro’s help centre. Locium calculates twilight windows from the property’s location and date automatically.
No retainers or client subscriptions documented
Brokerage batch invoicing exists, but pre-paid wallets, retainers and recurring client billing are not documented. Locium runs wallet-first retainer billing with automatic Stripe top-up.

Built inside a working media company
Locium is built by Patorama Studios, a real estate media production company in Australia. We shoot, edit and deliver listings every day — every feature exists because our own team needed it first. That is also why this page only claims what we can point to: our own product, and what Spiro publishes publicly. Read the founder story →
Frequently asked questions
How much does Spiro cost?
Spiro charges a flat US$5 per completed job with no subscription — genuinely simple. Two catches its docs confirm: deleted and duplicate listings are still billed, and extras cost more (video merges US$15 each, AutoHDR credits, a paid translation add-on). Locium is also usage-based but bills only when you deliver a listing — never for cancelled or deleted jobs.
Who is behind Spiro?
Spiro was built by Todd Kivimaki, whose Ohio media company WOW Video Tours has operated since 2004 and shoots thousands of listings a year. Like Locium — built inside Patorama Studios in Australia — it’s operator-built software, which is why both take production workflow seriously.
Can I embed Spiro’s order form in my website?
No — Spiro’s own help centre states you "cannot embed the order page to your website"; you link out to a Spiro-hosted page instead. Locium’s order form embeds directly in your site so the booking journey stays on your domain.
Does Spiro integrate with Xero or QuickBooks?
No. Spiro’s documentation says a native QuickBooks/Xero integration "is not necessary" and recommends reconciling revenue through bank feeds. Locium syncs invoices, payments and receipts to Xero natively — a significant difference for Australian and NZ businesses.
Does Spiro have a mobile app?
Spiro documents that it "does not currently have a downloadable mobile app" — its portals are mobile web pages you add to your home screen. Locium ships a dedicated mobile app experience for shoot-day routes, job details and uploads.
Can I switch from Spiro to Locium?
Yes, and because both are usage-based there’s no subscription overlap to worry about — sign up free, set up your services and try a few deliveries side by side. Email [email protected] and we’ll help with the migration ourselves.
